    Craig - Peru Missions Trip

    July 2, 2011
God has blessed enough to allow me to go to Arequipa, Peru a week ago, and what a blessing it was. While I was down there a verse of scripture has been ringing in my head ever since and I don't ever want it to stop!
Lamentations 3:51 says, "Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city."
While in Peru, I visited a cemetery and just to give you a little history, the Gospel was not preached in Arequipa, Peru until after the 1940's, and I saw so many tombstones with dates ending before the 1940's. I saw people weeping for their loved ones hoping that God might hear their cries that their loved ones can get out of Purgatory! Mine eye AFFECTETH my heart!
Before we left Arequipa, we prayed over the city on top of this huge mountain. There were lights as far as the eye could see. The population of Arequipa is over a million people and we've calculated that roughly 5% of the population has heard the gospel. Only 5%!!! Mine eye AFFECTETH my heart!

The plane ride back gave me time to think about this: What am I doing for the SAKE of His Name? Does seeing all these people without the gospel burden my heart for my own people and the world? We get so caught up in daily life when there are billions of people out there who have never heard the gospel and are dying and going to Hell! I look at America today and it's awful. We have full access to the Word of God but we still reject it!
Let's not just sit back and let the world die and go to hell! Pray that God would give us a willing heart, a passion, a huge burden for the world that we might go and preach unto all nations! Mine eyes have affected my heart! What are you going to do about it?

I totally agree with you there. There are so many opportunities out there and most of us are just not doing anything. How are we supposed to reach people (even the people in our backyard) when we are just sitting on the pew and say to ourselves "well God, I gave you my time this week now I'm going to do what I want to do." How are we supposed to reach people that way??? We can't!! We need to look at our lives and ask ourselves are we doing things that are spreading God's word and bringing glory to him. If that means putting a tract on the table when you leave a restaurant then that is what is going to be. You've planted a seed in that person and that might make the difference in the long run. Faith is a great opportunity for us at Lakeview. I know most people may have to work, but sometimes I really don't understand why only a handful show up. Why isn't the whole church there?? Why isn't this ministry important to everyone else?? Just another missed opportunity that could be used to get out God's word and even be a huge encouragement to current memeber of our church who are going through hard times or sickness. We should think on these things as going through the days ahead and not be considered as someone who "just sat on the pew."
