    Describe Jesus...

    June 2, 2010

In my opinion there is one hymn entitled "Praise Him! Praise Him!" that describes Christ the best. Fanny Crosby penned this hymn in the late 1800's and wrote this:

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer!
Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever.
Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!
Christ is coming! over the world victorious,
Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.

Did you see that? Prophet, and Priest, and King!

Jesus Christ is more than some guy who "loves the little children." His love is indescribable. His mercy is untouchable. His judgement is just. And...

He is our Prophet because He has told us of our sin and our need to repent. He has told us that salvation is in God alone and none other. He proclaims through His Word the sinfulness of man and their need for a Savior! He is THE PROPHET!

He is our Priest because once we learn of our hazardous state of mind and soul we need Someone to talk to God for us. Our Priest, Jesus Christ, made a sacrifice on our behalf on Calvary when he suffered and bled and died. Today, yes even now, He makes intercession (basically our connection or go-between) to the Father for us! He is THE PRIEST!

Though Christ is the Prophet and the Priest, He also sits on His throne as the King of Kings. This title implies His sovereignty, a word some Christians seem to choke on sometimes. Christ as our King means that He is in TOTAL control. Even when life seems it is at it's worse we trust that His judgements are right and know that His patience is long.

Jesus isn't limited to just your Prophet and Priest Who has saved you - if He isn't your King you don't have the Prophet OR the Priest. Salvation is more than just quoting a simple prayer from the heart - it is a life of humble recognition and submission to the Almighty Son of God!

How would you describe Jesus? I hope you can join me and say, "He is my Prophet, my Priest and my King!"
