The Devils Believe Also - And Tremble

    November 7, 2010

    James 2:19

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

James is writing to Jewish folk (1:1) when he mentions the verse above... stating the obvious, yet bringing up a good point. Sure the Jewish people believed in God, as do many people in our county and country, but he ends the statement with a stunning fact: "The devils belive... and they TREMBLE."

Tremble?!? When was the last time people, who claim to know God, trembled at the mention of His name? Here is what I see with many young people (older folk also, but this is a YOUTH blog) I encounter in our neck-of-the-woods: They claim to know God, yet they seem to have no passion for Christ. No desire for righteousness. No humility.

The devils know of God - and they shake. Their lips quiver with anxiety and fear. Your average Pickens county teenager? They say they know God - and they continue in their sin. They look for "churches" that have more entertainment than the Bi-Lo center than they do the teaching and preaching of the Word of God. The devils, destined for eternal damnation, shudder at the thought of Christ's arrival. The Pickens County teenager... lives like He isn't coming back.

Do you believe in God? Read James 2:17-20. Do you have faith? Let's see it...

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
