Everyone messes up, but what do we do when someone who claims to know Jesus commits sin? First, that person has to be CONFRONTED. Jesus is clear in Matthew 18 about when and how to approach a believer who is in sin. In LOVE, we go to them and tell them to get right and repent... but what about AFTERWARDS?
If the believer repents, the next step is restoration - Look at Galatians 6:1-3:
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, RESTORE such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Paul the Apostle is crystal clear - RESTORE them. HELP them. BUILD THEM UP. How often have you watched other teenagers and young people TEAR each other down? God's Word is clear - We are to restore each other AND (get this...) be HUMBLE because we could fall into the same mistakes and sin!
He said, "consider thyself"... Before you begin bashing another person for their sin, think about yourself and be mindful that YOU could do the same or even WORSE.
I love it that God gives us a plan to HELP each other. We help restore one another when we fall and we also are to bear each other's burdens. That means, simply, that we just CARE for each other!
So... 1.) Are your restoring believers back to God? 2.) Are you remaining humble when it comes to sinning? and 3.) Are you bearing other's burdens?
