Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Psalm 119:9
Why is the Bible important? Wow... Well, there are many different answers as to WHY the Bible is important today's teenager, but I'd like to focus on one facet: DEALING WITH SIN.
Look, I'm not ignorant, I know that in "church culture" today,...
Happy Valentines Day!
What makes Jesus so wonderful? That was the question posed at our last YIELD meeting! What about Jesus makes Him so AWESOME to you? Well last night, while talking to our young people, I mentioned this text of Scripture:
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" (Hebrews 9:27)
Everyone is going to have to face death - Like the Bible says, we all will meet our Maker. Now because of the sinfulness of our heart, if we enter into the next life without the blood of Christ applied to our lives here, we will face judgment. What is that judgment? It is the holy wrath of God that is poured out upon our sin - and we deserve every bit of it! Our sin WILL NOT be tolerated in the presence of a Holy God.
Now that sounds bad (and it is!) but we have this hope in Christ, that if we come to Him believing, He will forgive us of our sin and give us life eternal. Therefore, though death is a certainty for EVERYONE, we can escape judgment because He (Jesus) took our place and judgment on the cross! Why? Because God showed His love toward us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us!
Want to TRULY celebrate a holiday that tells us to show appreciation for those we love? If you've trusted Christ, thank Him for taking your judgment while on the cross! You love Him because He first loved you!
Aaron Butner is the Youth Leader at Lakeview Baptist Church. You can reach him at (864) 361-0893.
At Lakeview Baptist Church we want to stand firm on God's Word - not man's opinion or the latest "religious" fad. Now young person, while someone may say to you, "Yes, I believe in the Word of God!" that may not be entirely accurate!
Can you approach that person (whether it is another teen, teacher, preacher, etc.) with the Word of God when...
We had just left Pastor Mike's house after watching the Super Bowl, when Billy asked me about the difference in what our church believes compared to another denomination. I explained to him that the difference (in this instance) was the role sin plays in man's life and ultimately the effect of salvation plays concerning one's soul.
What did I...
Matthew 10:22 "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved".
What a powerful verse this is. This is what our New Year's resloution should be, to live for His name's sake. You know a lot of people will say they are going to be nicer, or eat better, or try to make a new goal for the upcoming...
What is grace?
It is the unmerited favor of God on those who totally do not deserve one ounce of His goodness. Remember what Paul told the church at Ephesus? "For by GRACE are ye saved through faith..."
There is NOTHING that you can do to earn God's respect or love. On the same note, you do not INHERIT this love either
I hope you will pray for Trent Cornwell as he travels to India and Thailand, February 1st to the 10th.
Check this out - India is one of the largest countries in the world, yet so unreached. I hope you will join me as we pray for God to open up opportunities in India and Thailand!
Check out Trent's website here.
Question: Who was Dietrich Bonhoeffer?
Answer: A Martyr, who gave his life in the 1940's for the cause of Christ in Germany.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Ephesians 6:1-3
Young people - listen to Dad. Listen to Mom. Let's take it a step further - listen to your grandparents. This isn't a suggestion or request from God... It is a commandment.
God's Word doesn't say, "Obey Mom or obey to Dad if you think they are right." No, God says obey them because it is the right thing to do.
Here is where so many young people get off track, early in their lives. I talk to young people who think that their parents are trying to hurt them, hold them back and suck the fun out of life. You couldn't get farther from the truth! Your parents love you and want to see you succeed in this life! Why would they try to make a wreck of your life? They want to see you do great things because that brings them satisfaction and happiness! So listen, trust their judgment and obey them!
Should we trust our parent's judgment?
My mom made me go to church. I tried to tell my mom "no" a few times, but it never worked. She had determined that church was not a preference but an obligation. Aaron Butner had no say in the matter - We would pack up and go to Wayside Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC every Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. She was so crazy that when we had week long revival meetings... WE WENT TO THOSE ALSO!!!
Hey, ya know what? Mom did it because - - - SHE LOVED ME. She knew that without God in my life, I would amount to nothing and would live a selfish, unhappy life!
Because of my mom's good judgment and love for me, I am now reaping the benefits of a happy, fulfilled life in CHRIST!
Even if you disagree with Dad or Mom, you still should obey. Why? Because God said so!
Who is Jesus Christ?
Many, many people in the world and in our country believe they know Who Christ is, but how many TRULY understand Jesus Christ?
Here is your challenge - read John 6.
You will find that there is a group that wants Christ for material reasons that become upset when Jesus doesn't deliver the way they want. They go as far as getting on a boat and riding across a small sea to talk to Him, but though they "came" they did not "believe". (See verse 35 for more insight.)
Why do you want Jesus? To make you feel good about yourself? To give you material blessing?
Or are you seeking Him for a deeper satisfaction, because you know without Him you are NOTHING?
Seek Jesus while He can be found!
