Who do you think is a "radical Christian"? By "radical" I mean passionate, sold-out and just plain different. So think about it... How many radical Christians have you encountered in Pickens County?

The America Christian is a pitiful sight. No, let's take it a step further and hit a little closer to home - the Pickens county Christian is dispicable! Why do I say that? Well...

In Pickens county we think the Christian norm, the average Christian, is the guy or girl who shows up to at least one church service a week, attends an occasional extra-church activity or puts a five dollar bill in the plate as it is passed. Vacations are off limits - God allows the Pickens county Christian a pass on church attendance when on vacation... No matter HOW many vacations they take each year! Service in the church is not really needed because we are sure there are at least 3 people who can handle 90% of the work. And if we don't like our church, or we get tired of it, we leave - there are DOZENS more churches just like ours... Sickening...

We think the radical, Pickens county Christian is the guy or gal who shows up to every service. They give their offerings. They wear Christian t-shirts. They serve where needed. They talk about God - OUTSIDE of church (now that's crazy)! They just seem to really be sold on this "church thing".

I believe it would be safe to say that in Pickens county we will be hard pressed to find a radical Christian. Now, if you look at the previous paragraph I started it off by saying "we think". But what does God think? What does God consider radical?

God's Word doesn't leave any doubts - Jesus said in Luke 14:26 & 27, "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."

Jesus doesn't leave room for the weak - If you want to follow Jesus, you're going to have to choose Him over EVERYTHING else. If you come to Jesus, and pledge allegiance, your love for Him should shine so brightly that your family appears neglected. Family doesn't come first; Jesus comes first - ALWAYS. Jesus then states, "Hey, your life? FORGET IT!" If your not bearing a cross - you're not a disciple.

The radical Christian is more concerned with the true will of God. The radical Christian is zealous of good works for His glory. The radical Christian loves God and others notice. The radical Christian...

    SHOULD BE YOU.

  • The Importance of Sunday School

    June 22, 2010

Here is the first article from the series on WHY Sunday School is important. It is our hope that these articles (that are in the church bulletin each week) will stir those in the congregation to consider becoming more involved in this outreach and discpling tool.

The Importance of Sunday School in the 21st Century Church

    In the beginning…

One of the most profitable and influential ministries in the church over the last 200 years is slowing dying. What ministry is that? Sunday School.

There is a good chance that within the next few years we could see Sunday School lost to the pages of history… but why? Maybe we should ask a different question. Should we ALLOW it to disappear? Should we ALLOW it go?

Church members’ lack of attendance and general apathy towards this once great outreach tool has resulted in its slow decay. Those are the cold, hard facts. We will begin to explore the reasons why attendance and apathy reign in our morning Bible study, but first we will examine its origin.

Many historians believe Robert Raikes, a layman in the Anglican church of England, initiated the first “Sunday School” as an outreach to delinquent boys in Gloucester, England in 1780. That July, Robert began instructing the young men according to God’s Word – first teaching them how to read and second how to live. Later, young girls were invited as well and by 1831, it is estimated that approximately 1.25 million young people were enrolled in Sunday School across England. That accounted for 25% of the current population!

The idea of using Sunday School to reach young people spread with the influx of missionaries leaving England and going around the world. It wasn’t long before American churches also included Sunday School as a part of their services as well.

With time, Sunday School evolved to include “Adult Sunday School.” What is “Adult Sunday School?” Today’s Sunday School is an extended and in-depth study of the Word of God in a small group setting that is needful in addition to the normal corporate worship times. While over the last half of the 20th Century great results were yielded from this form of Bible study and evangelistic outreach, today the decline is evident. Where has the passion for the study of God’s Word gone?

We will explore this in more detail in the weeks to come!

  • Resurrection Sunday - Were You There?

    April 04, 2010

Did you make it to the Sunrise Service?

If you didn't you missed a great time - Pastor Mike unpacked God's Word concerning the truths of Christ's resurrection.

After the early service, we had a time of fellowship and breakfast - which was DELICIOUS!

Ultimately, it's all about getting involved in YOUR church. Be there when the doors are open; try your best to be involved with as much as possible. Now I know that sometimes EVERYTHING can be impossible - there is family, work, health issues and more... Try your best to "not forsake the assembling of ourselves;" you will not regret it!

We look forward to seeing you at Lakeview!
